The secret Nexus

When you first enter Worlds you start on Ground Zero, the default starting point from which you can begin your journey. A more useful GZ however is the Beach, where you have access to the Gauntlet. The Gauntlet provides you with all the downloadable default worlds. But what about the other hidden places? If you reach the Beach it will be easy to figure out the rest. Just look around.

There are plenty other GZ worlds, each with it's own theme such as Animal House, Alien Invasion, Market, Christmas, Halloween, Roller Coaster, DOOM  etc.

But what's this? There's a secret Easter Themed GZ that only very few have had the chance to access. It is the nexus to almost all possible worlds available from the beginning of time. It's worldsmark is very rarely shared, like a secret handshake between regulars. You'll be lucky to get your hands on it.

Nexialist

"The Key-bearer" as the explorers sometimes call him, dressed in leather either as a humanoid but flesh-less animal or as a fully cloaked figure, followed certain users around silently but occasionally chose to speak, either unintelligible lines that resembled suffocation, or hints about keys and places. Sometimes, he would let others follow him into eerie environments and parallel existences.

Sometimes he (or it?) would unleash monsters to eat the users and trap them in caves or attics especially in the Animal House world where venturing on the road over the fence turns out to be the worst idea.

"You have to go INSIDE"  stands out as the most often used line and people have tried since forever to figure out what it means, but to no avail.

"Spread the word" is another, which people have deciphered as being an invitation to bring others into the demon's lair.

Will you accept the invitation?

Why

But how did Worlds suddenly regain it's popularity? What series of events allowed this to happen?

Mysterious entities roamed freely through the forgotten playground  making their presence known by talking cryptically about finding some sort of key, going through certain trials and finding hidden worlds. Multiple names, the most notable being ItemVOID, Nexialist, MonoPool and Snowmeat, each bearing monstrous features, have started appearing in /x/ and /v/ threads where people began theorizing that they might be crazy bots, lost souls, demons, cultists or criminals searching for their next prey. Interacting with each one of these entities was difficult, they would often perform impossible and threatening actions or trigger unusual events within the virtual world.

And as more people joined in to solve the puzzle, things got more and more complicated. Screen-caps taken by the Unknown show satanic temples, pentagrams, torture chambers, pornographic content, inhumane actions and unearthly sights. Even for an outdated chat client with poor graphics this was way too much to handle. This is not all however, the regulars presented strange behavior towards the new guests and the explorers were being stalked and listened to without consent through walls and whispers.

Soon, church worlds were discovered and with them, an array of avatars with the same apparel, white or black robes bearing similarities to cultists, surrounded Nexialist who seemed to be the very core of all this.

What and where

Launched in 1994, Worlds is a 3D Virtual Chat program, the first to be available widely on the internet. Containing various worlds, avatars and games, it's servers have survived for 18 years despite it's users moving on to other, more modern alternatives such as Second Life. What once was a popular virtual space with millions of people gathering in it's enthralling environments is now a deserted universe with outdated graphics and music, a forgotten dreamworld at the edge of the internet waiting for it's death for almost two decades.

But it's eternal sleep was hindered by a mysterious series of events that have unveiled it's existence once again. Such as LSD Dream Emulator, the long forgotten PS1 Game, and Yume Nikki, the hidden dreamland of a little girl, Worlds opened it's doors to "Internet Archaeologists" as they call themselves, a group of curious users on a long journey of discovering it's mysteries.
